Marcela Antipán Olate

Marcela Antipan Olate is a media artist and designer from the southern Andes, currently based in Bremen, Germany. Her work explores the roles that machines and technical objects play in shaping how we understand the world. She approaches these tools both as creative collaborators and as subjects of investigation, experimenting with ways to reinterpret and repurpose them. Her projects take the form of digital works, physical objects, texts, installations, and collaborative formats such as workshops.

She studied Graphic Design at the University of Chile and holds a Master’s degree in Digital Media from the University of the Arts Bremen. Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues such as Ars Electronica, Lab.30, and the Venice Biennale – Summer School. In 2024, she received the Frese-Design-Preis.

Marcela currently teaches in the Digital Media Master’s program at the University of the Arts Bremen and collaborates on the artistic research project The Dynamic Archive. Her contribution to the project is primarily curatorial, involving interviews with artists to explore and archive the often-invisible processes behind artistic creation.

Marcela Antipán Olate is a PhD candidate in the Binational Artistic Phd Program at HfK Bremen (University of the Arts Bremen) in cooperation with ZHdK Zurich (Zurich University of the Arts). Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Andrea Sick (HfK-Bremen), Prof. Dr. Elke Bippus (ZHdK-Zurich), and Prof. Ralf Baecker as a co-supervisor.
