By building on the convergence of practices that once were categorically divided, the HfK cultivates artistic projects and research activities that transcend disciplines and encompass a combination of theoretical, artistic, applied, and technological elements.

With a focus on collaborative interaction and the critical reflection of diverse perspectives and modalities, research areas include a range of fields, from emerging trends in digital design culture, fine arts, and design processes, to the* the investigation of theoretical, philosophical, and historical contexts of artistic practices. In order to do so, the HfK Bremen aims to inspire novel areas of research by supporting faculty efforts to connect teaching, research, and practice, and addressing today’s most relevant cultural, social, and artistic challenges via artistic* inquiries and research.

The PhD in Art program consists of various content-related courses, international and interdisciplinary PhD colloquies, courses that improve scientific and theoretical skills, and the dissertation, as well as a defense or disputation.
