Jürgen Berderow

Jürgen Berderow is a photographer, lecturer, and design researcher whose work explores the relationship between photography, visual culture, and contemporary design practice. His practice focuses on the intersections of landscape, architecture, memory, and visual culture, addressing ecological transformation, historical rupture, and the cultural dimensions of image-making through documentary and research-based methods.

He studied at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and the University of Cape Town (Michaelis School of Fine Art)  before completing an M.A. in Integrated Design at the University of the Arts Bremen. He is a member of the academic staff in the Faculty of Design at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, and has also taught at the University of the Arts Bremen. His academic work is grounded in a sustained interest in the critical and cultural dimensions of image-making. Alongside his research and teaching, he has worked with international design and creative agencies.
