Verdiana Albano
Verdiana Albano (*1993) is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher whose work explores fragmented memory connected to socio-ecological entanglements. Through photography and installation, her practice engages with the instability of memory and imagination to examine worlds shaped by displacement and structures of power. By rethinking imagery, Albano constructs visual narratives that negotiate global interdependencies and economic inequality.
Her work has been recognized by PhMuseum, the ISO 5000 Prize, FUTURES Photography, and several grants from Stiftung Kunstfonds. Albano’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at Les Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles.
Albano studied Fine Arts at HfG Offenbach (Germany), the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing (China), and Ostkreuz School in Berlin (Germany). She is currently a candidate in the binational artistic PhD program at HfK Bremen (Germany) and the Michaelis School of Fine Art (South Africa). In 2023, she founded an Afrodiasporic and Afropean network for emerging artist Institute Contemporary, supported by the Allianz Foundation Fellowship 2023/2024. Albano lives and works in Frankfurt and Berlin.

“In her layered and multi-dimensional project Verdiana Albano moves through the remnants of East Germany as if sifting through a family attic—lifting files and photographs, as well as furniture. Her work investigates the architecture of a childhood shaped by a white mother, a Black father, and a system already cracking at its seams. Between the posed and the documentary, she threads her own image alongside institutional archives, reminding us that the personal is always political. What emerges is a quiet insistence that identity is not inherited whole, but assembled – piece by piece –across time, place, and possibility.”
